To all American Legion Post 410 Members and those wishing to become a member?

We are in the process of seeking member nominations for the 2014 Post 410 Officers.
All 2014 Post 410 Officer Positions are up for election in May 2014. John Latour, 1stVice Commander, and Tom Walton, Adjutant, are pursuing other 2014 American Legion positions therefore leave two Post 410 Officer position vacancies.
If you, or someone you know with the American Legion, would like to be considered, please contact Arthur Nicholl, Commander or John Latour, 1st Vice Commander, no later than April 01, 2014. The Nominating committee considers all persons who are nominated for Officer Positions and will submit a slate of the board 30 days prior to the election. Individuals selected for 2014 Post 410 Officers will be notified at the Post 410 Election, May 22, 2014.

Elijah our other grandson rode the Fire Ladder Truck throwing candy sitting inside the front! I got to enjoy the view perfectly! Our Sophie and our son in laws Channel Raul's Dog too cute! He was an Air Force Retired MSGT who served as a Firefighter in the military and a local volunteer. He served in Vietnam with 2 other local firefighters- Fighter Pilot, Retired Col Mike Tagaras, also President of MLVFD who sinced passed away and Retired Col Tom Kral Grumpy still standing and who shared their story together. Testimonies were shared with deep sadness and tears! May his soul Rest In Peace, we pray! May his family and friends find comfort! Veteran's Job Fair at Kerrville VA Clinic
South Texas Veterans Health Care System (STVHCS) will be hosting a job fair at the Kerrville VA Medical Clinic (KVAMC) on March 25, 2017. They will be hiring medical, nursing, food service, housekeeping, engineering and police personnel.

The latest information I received is that this a hiring job fair, hired on the spot. It will be in the hospital auditorium, 25 March, from 0900 to 1400.

The Chili Cook-Off, event, on 2017-04-01 Saturday, local contestants winners, were:

Debiie Woldrop - 2nd place chili
Nancy Ross - 1st place chili

The CASI Sunday event, had 11 out of the ncessary 15 entrants, but the chili's were tasty ( as evidenced by this judge ), and fun was had by all. Since it failed to meed the CASI official requirments, the entry fees were donated by CASI to the Legion for it's assistance in holding the event.

Primero General Hispano de 4 Estrellas en el Militar de Los Estados Uñidos 🇺🇸 Richard Cavazos, a Mexican-American, was born on January 31, 1929 in Kingsville, Texas. His brother is former U.S. Secretary of Education (1988-1990) Lauro Cavazos. He graduated as the distinguished graduate from the ROTC program at Texas Technological University in 1951.He then earned a B.S. degree in geology from Texas Technological College (now Texas Tech University) in 1951, where he played on the football team and was a distinguished graduate of the ROTC program.He received further military education at the U.S. Army Command and Staff College, the British Army Staff College, the Armed Forces Staff College, and the U.S. Army War College.He received basic officer training at Fort Benning, Georgia, followed by training at Airborne School. He then deployed to Korea with the 65th Infantry.
Richard E. Cavazos. Richard Edward Cavazos (born January 31, 1929), a Korean War recipient of the Distinguished Service Cross as a first lieutenant, who advanced in rank to become the United States Army's first Hispanic four-star general. During the Vietnam War, as a lieutenant colonel, Cavazos was awarded a second Distinguished Service Cross.

Roberto Pachecano of San Antonio, TX, passed away on Wednesday, December 13th from complications of scleroderma

Leaving Edgewood High School at 17 years old, Roberto joined the US Marine Corps and volunteered for service in Vietnam. He served with HQ Company, 9th Marine Infantry Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, and later with the 2nd Division and 3rd Marine Air Wing as well as the US Air Force. He received numerous military citations including the Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnam Service Ribbon with 3 Bronze Stars, and the South Vietnam Unit Gallantry Cross.

Roberto's exposure to both Agent Orange in Vietnam and toxic water at Marine Base Camp Lejeune, NC likely contributed to his demise from mixed connective tissue disease and cancer.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to Shriners Hospitals for Children.

In Memory of Charles E. “Boots” Laue

Charles E. “Boots” Laue, 101, of Lakehills, died Sunday, March 4, 2018 in Bandera.

He was born September 20, 1916 In San Antonio to Eugene and Helen Florence Davis Laue. He married Helen G. Edgekoski on May 15, 1943 and they were married for 63 years until her death in 2006.

Charles was a career Navy veteran, retiring in 1975 after 30 years of service. He participated in WWII, Viet Nam and Korea serving on various ships as a Chief Petty Officer in charge of the dental department and lab. His last duty station was at the U. S. Naval Dental Center in San Diego in charge of the laboratory. Charles was fire chief and assistant fire chief for the Medina Lake VFD, member of the American Legion Post 410, belongs to the Barstow Masonic Lodge #682 and a member of the Fleet Reserve Association.

Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; bother, Gene R. Laue; sisters, Maida Wehmeyer and Helen Evans.

Charles is survived by his nieces, Carol Jean Quick (M. L.) of Victoria, TX; Sandra Laue Mauer (David) of Lakehills, TX and nephews, Robert Wehmeyer of Bandera; Eugene E. “Bubba” Laue (Terry), San Angelo, TX. He leaves behind numerous great-nieces and nephews along with great-greats.

A memorial service was held at 1:00 Saturday, March 10 2018 at Grimes Funeral Chapel, 1214 Mulberry St., Bandera, TX.

July 26, 2018, at CAMC General, following complications from a motor vehicle accident.
Bill attended Church of God Prophecy, served in the U.S. Army, was a laborer and a member of the Moose Lodge and the American Legion.

Cmdr Bess memo to the 2019-2020 membership of The American Legion, James F. Pearson, Post 410, Lakehills, Tx.

Our National and State (Department) Legion leaders continue to lobby our elected officials as to encourage policy and benefits that we Veterans have earned. For instance, the President signed the Legion Act on 30 Jul 2019, which opens the door to millions of Veterans to access American Legion programs and benefits for which they previously had not been eligible.
In a nut shell, it authorizes anyone honorably discharged from 1941 to present day, Legion eligibility.

As many of you know, we attained 108% (THANK YOU ALL) of our goal last year and earned some bonus funds from the Legion’s National committee, which we will use towards supporting our Veterans and their Families as well as providing support to our community. We currently stand at 186 members and National and State leadership has set our 2020 goal to be 188. As you see, this can easily be met as long as each and every one of us retains our memberships
and we gain 2 new members. However, we are over achievers and have set our sights on meeting or exceeding our Post’s all time high of 214 members. As such, we illicit your commitment in renewing your membership as well as helping us spread the word of all we do.

Many may have seen in the Bandera Prophet and/or heard through the grapevine, but our Post earned The James P. Holley Community Service Award for 2019. In essence we finished #2 out of 466 Legion Posts in the entire State of Texas. In fact, we were barely beat out of 1st place by a Post with almost 1000 members.
The dues are $40.00 again this year and the official membership year runs from 1 Jan thru 31 Dec, but the National & State Leadership starts the membership drive in July of each year. We will be taking off this Wednesday evening, for Thanksgiving, so we will be back with the Wednesday night dinners on December 4th!

We are sorry to say, that we must discontinue the Wednesday night dinners, due to our cooks having medical issues to take care of, and the loss of one of our main cooks. We have so enjoyed cooking for you, and hope that we can resume at some point. But for now, we can't. Have a blessed 2020.

Due to our Governor Abbott’s Executive Order on the COVID-19 Virus, American Legion Post 410 is closed to at Least 4 Apr 2020. ( 2020-04-03 extended till at least Apr 30 ) This includes all future meetings and events.
More information on this matter will be posted as soon as it is released.

In the meantime, please take precautions as you see fit and be on the lookout for our Legion Family and anyone else in our Community you know who may be in need of assistance.

Items needed but not limited to: water, clothing, cleaning supplies, non-perishable food, diapers, etc. Also volunteers will be needed on Saturday to help load the items into 2 U-Haul Trucks.

The 22nd District is going to start collecting item starting tomorrow Friday, Aug 28th at 9:00 am at American Legion Post 490, they will load 2 U-Haul trucks on Saturday, Aug 29th and depart at 11:00 am to the Bridge City and Orange areas.

South Texas Veterans Health Care System is offering COVID-19 vaccinations to enrolled Veterans on Saturdays only. Veterans do not need to schedule an appointment.
Saturday, January 16, 2021 - Veterans 70 years of age and older.
Saturday, January 23, 2021 - Veterans 65 years of age and older

VA accepting walk-ins for the stated age groups, no appointment necessary, Veterans may present to any of the following locations:

NEWS RELEASE: Kerrville VA Medical Center to Begin Vaccinating Veterans
All, please see below and attached. We began vaccinating outpatient Veterans on Wednesday, 6 JAN 2021 and have been gaining momentum, vaccinating more each day and will continue to do so until all enrolled Veterans who want the vaccination, receive two doses.

Please forward this email to other Hill Country Veterans 70 years of age, or older, and let know them know we offer a Saturday vaccination clinic in additional to Monday – Friday (no clinic slated on 18 JAN 2021 – Martin Luther King Observation).

On Saturdays, the Kerrville VA Medical Center (KC) Canteen Entrance will be the way in and out; we will have two locations for vaccinations and; KC staff will be placed throughout the facility to help Veterans find their way. We request only the Veteran come to the clinics, unless they have a mobility situation and require assistance, and not arrive more than a few minutes early for the scheduled appointment to avoid crowding.
